What do you listen to while you work?

As much as I love music sometimes I just can’t focus with distractions and find that the sound of nature outside such as birds and wind, bees, or rain is a better source to listen to.
This painting I’ve just laid down the early layers and it’s still in its ugly stage and focus is very important as I make enough mistakes during the journey of creating a painting and struggle with every one I do . Learning as i go along. I find that if I just smash the paint in and stand back that I can feel source energy inspiring me on what to do next. Obviously I work to a kind of system and process but love concept pieces where the imagination can take over.
Careful planning of composition and subject matter where the painting can tell a story within itself is really what I enjoy doing.
Here we have to iconic beautiful women from 1 million years BC and a James bond movie in a new story. The painting will have a painted frame with the bond girl kind of coming out of the frame and canvas. At the moment it’s a mess but I can see potential in it. Getting it right Is going to be a tough challenge.
I’m painting this with acrylic paint on canvas board but realise ideally I should have used gouasche paint on heavy stick paper as the layering would stand out through transparency in the colors better but the process takes so much longer to do because of drying times. What takes me a few days to do in acrylic can turn into weeks with gouasche and can be exhausting.

Tom raiders was painted with gouasche and this took nearly 2 weeks. This was again a concept piece with many struggles along the way. I find that general tone of colour in gouasche paint can produce nice effects better than acrylic but it’s such a slow process. With acrylic it’s forgiving when you make a mistake as you can just paint over it but with gouasche paint you can end up repairing an entire section and it takes longer. Believe it or not the title in Tomb raiders is actually acrylic paint for it’s bold brightness.
